Pure sweetness

I just had to post this little story from the weekend. We were driving through town on our way to the grocery store when I heard from the backseat, "Mama?" This is how the rest of the conversation went:

Me: Yes, Kiran?
K: I love you.
Me: I love you, too, sweetie.
K: I love it when you kiss me...I love it when you hug me...I love it when you play with me...I love it when I cuddle with you...I love it when you open my window.

Seriously? Could this kid be any sweeter?

Nail Polish and more

Kiran was really excited today to show me what he did at school today...He got his fingernails painted purple! What fun! He's really very proud. And insistent that the next time we go to the store we get green polish so he can paint his toenails green.

He also had lots of fun creating a little "stage" on the couch where he played the piano for me. He's really quite the performer. Oh, and yes, he's pantless. He seems to boycot clothing these days. Sometimes it's shirts he doesn't want to wear and sometimes it's pants...tonight was a pantless night.

Ninja warrior or Handy Manny?

Well, Kiran has discovered the cartoon Handy Manny that's on the Disney Channel. I know, I know...most kids his age have been enjoying Handy Manny for quite a while, but I shelter him! He discovered it on accident over the weekend when we turned the TV on for a 1/2 hour of rest, peace, and quiet. Now, he's obsessed. Needless to say he's been playing Handy Manny a lot at home lately.

Yesterday, his preschool teacher painted the kids faces. I wasn't sure what Kiran was when I picked him up...and neither was he. He had to chase down Ben, his teacher, and ask him what his face was painted like. Ha! Anyway, he was a Ninja Warrior (aka he had lots of black, white, and red squiggles on his face) as were several other little boys in his class. Here are some pics of the little warrior playing Handy Manny.

Our Super Saturday

Alright, so there wasn't really anything particularly special about this day, but the weather was beautiful and we had a really fun day together. We went to the farmer's market where Kiran and I shared a mango smoothie (yummm!) and some kettlecorn, Kiran saw his favorite performer who sang Kiran's request (Bob Marley's Three Little Birds), and we got some fresh tomatoes. After the farmer's market we headed downtown, had lunch at a local spot that is always very busy but we've never tried. They have breakfast all day, so we had yummy breakfast for lunch (you'll see just how yummy in the picture below!). Lots of playtime at home, steaks on the grill for dinner followed by ice cream, and a nice walk with Finley and the day ended just as pleasantly as it started! It's days like these that really make me realize how lucky I am and what a fantastic family I have.

Chillin' on a park bench waiting for Papa to park the car.

Watching his favorite Farmer's Market singer, Curtis, who invariably sings some Bob Marley. Today it was No Woman No Cry and Three Little Birds. I swear, Kiran could watch him all day!

By now, Curtis recognizes Kiran and came over to give him a hug between songs. Later Kiran inched closer and closer until he was nearly touching his guitar.

Just a little excited about his chocolate chip pancake.
He pretended it was his birthday, this was his cake, and the toothpick was his birthday candle...goof!

Nishu and Kiran have a new trick...it makes me nervous, of course!

Back at home, he insisted on wearing his tie. Nishu gave him one of his old ties and Kiran loves it! Lately if he's not running around in just his undies, he's wearing the tie. Funny little man. Lookin' like a real Rock Star!

Hey, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away

I'm not sure where Kiran learned this, but he has started actually putting his head in his hands when he sings the opening line to "Hey, you've got to hide your love away". He locks his hands behind his head, and hugs his head with his arms, pointing his elbows straight forward. And has to do it each time he sings this song...so funny! When I asked him where he learned that he said, "Habidader tought me". Habidader is his baby doll...so I'm pretty sure he's pulling my leg!

Learning some Hindi

Kiran's new preschool has brightly colored pieces of paper with "Please" and "Thank You" written in all different languages...Arabic, German, French, Hebrew, Korean, Japanese, Chinese...but no Hindi. So this morning as we were looking at them I asked his teacher if we could hang one in Hindi, too. She got me a piece of paper to write it on and Kiran was really excited. He made me write it twice, so he could keep a copy with him and his teacher could have one to hang. So, he learned 'shukriya' and 'dhanyavaad', two ways to say thank you in Hindi. He picked up shukriya really quickly but then would say, "And there's two ways to say it...the other way is hard." But by tonight he was willing to try. It sounds more like ton-you-vaad...but he's trying and it's pretty darn cute!

Playing in the rain

It rained all evening yesterday, so we just played in the rain!

Checking out the big puddle behind the house.

He loves to walk up the steps to the back door...on his way to check out his plants/flowers (which mostly died while we were in Australia).

Getting a closer looks at all the bugs that seem to like the cilantro.

Washing Mama's car.

Apparently there wasn't enough rain, so he had to play with his spray bottle.

Oh, so sad because mean, mean Mama wouldn't refill his water bottle.

Finally coming around...and I got him to laugh!

But then it was time to go inside...

So, more sad faces. It was quite an emotional evening!
