Our little MJ wannabe

Kiran started the day with a major fit because we wouldn't let him wear his leather jacket to school in the rain. So, naturally when he got home he wanted to wear his jacket...and then we broke out the Harley Davidson boots. They didn't really go with his "daycare" outfit of mesh shorts and a t-shirt, but hey, the kid was happy! And, of course, he had to wear one glove (it was black not glittery, but that didn't seem to bother him) to be just like Michael Jackson!

Aren't they cute in their matching outfits??

Oh, wait, I meant aren't they tough??

Brotherly love!

And how about a little video action of Kiran singing Beat it. Such an entertainer.

The way you make me feel.

Crazy Hair Day

Today was crazy hair day at Kiran's preschool. His hair is really, really straight and it's hard to make it do anything crazy. Even with lots of styling cream this is the best we could do!

A new approach to school attire

We spent a really fun weekend in Wisconsin visiting family this past weekend. While we were there, Hopey Mausi bought a new jacket that Kiran thought looked like a "rock'n'roll jacket." Of course, this prompted him to want a rock'n'roll jacket. So, when we got home I pulled out a leather jacket that my uncle let us borrow for Kiran. He hadn't had any interest in this jacket in the past, but I guess now he understands just how "rock'n'roll" it is. So, he rocked out in it last night some and then this morning came into our room with his jacket on, his green goggles on, and another pair of sunglasses in his pocket...all ready for school. I have to admit that it was a tad embarrassing walking into school with Kiran wearing the jacket and goggles, but, hey, he's three...he can only get away with this eclectic style for so long. So, I let him...

Here he is looking very proud of himself...he insisted that I continue to take pictures of all of his goofy faces!

His sad face

"funny"

"crazy eyes"

"sad"...again

Started a new school

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, Kiran had his last day at his school (Hoosier Courts) in Bloomington on July 31st. We were all very sad about it. It was a wonderful school and it was really tough touring other daycares/preschools in Yorkville because they just don't seem to compare! Well, we finally settled on one that seems great - very different than Hoosier Courts, but great. Kiran loved it...I'm a tougher sell and hopefully I'll end up loving it, too! Anyway, yesterday was his first day there all day by himself. We visited together for an hour or two at a time Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday last week. He was excited about starting, which was a big relief for me! And he insisted that he wear a "work shirt" for school. He had a great first day and today had another great day. Drop off was easy, he even napped today, and when Nishu & I picked him up today we spied for a while before going in the room. He was having lots of fun and anyone watching would have thought he'd been there forever!

Here's Kiran in his work shirt all ready for school.

And here he is eating his special treat (Culver's) after his first day.
Showing us some dance moves. More dance moves - his Michael Jackson kick. He was so excited to tell us everything he learned in school and to keep practicing that he and had to make notecards of all the days of the week, the months of the year, and weather terms. We used his magnet board to display them all, sing songs about them, and practice. What a good student! Hmmmm, which one is Monday? Day 2 and he insisted on another work shirt. We're hoping we can talk him into regular clothes for tomorrow! And, again, he wanted to practice more when he got home. He was quick to pick out Tuesday on his magnet board! I hope he continues to have this passion for learning.

Riding a two-wheeler all by himself!!

Kiran got a glide-2-ride (balance) bike from his Dadaji and Dadi for his birthday. It's a really cool bike that doesn't have pedals. The idea being that it's easier to learn how to ride a bike if you master balancing before putting the pedals on. Well, he's been doing so great that we decided to put the pedals on yesterday. He was pretty apprehensive yesterday, but today he practiced for a little while and just took off! Here are some pics and a video from this afternoon. After dinner he rode all the way to our community park and back. What a big boy!!

The Outer Banks, North Carolina

We took a long weekend trip to the Outer Banks with some good friends from Grad School/Atlanta earlier this month. They have an 8 month old son, who is absolutely adorable and Kiran had a blast with everyone! It was a really great trip...very relaxing, and great to spend time with friends we don't get to see often enough! So, here's where I bombard you all with pictures. For those of you who live near (nice) beaches you may think we're crazy. But this is Kiran's first trip to beach since we took him to Puerto Rico when he was 9 months old...he was a little apprehensive at first. In fact, the first waves that came in when he got his feet wet elicited an, "I'm floating away. Oh, no, I'm floating away!" and a "Hold me tight, papa!" because he was so afraid of being washed away. His fears subsided quickly, though, and days 2 and 3 at the beach were a blast. He pretended he was surfing and was fearless!

Here's our view from our Condo - it was beautiful!
Kiran playing on the balcony.
Even breakfast was fun!
Day 1 at the beach

And of course we had to bury him in the sand...several times, actually. He loved it!

Checking out the local Hammock store...Nishu really wanted to bring one home. Too bad we don't have any trees!

We even encountered a real live Pirate while strolling through Manteo!

Enjoying some free activities in a little courtyard in Manteo.

Swimming at the pool at the Condo...check out his super cool, floaty wetsuit! Stylin'!
Day 2 at the Beach.

Day 3 - doing a little surfing.

Collecting Shells...he collected LOTS of shells and rocks. We managed to dump them unbeknownst to Kiran to avoid a complete meltdown!

We thought mini golf would be fun, but Kiran fell asleep on the way. And would NOT wake up. He slept through the first 12 or 13 holes.

And woke up just in time to see Nishu and Ian's shenanigans!

And, finally, Nishu's favorite part of the Outer Banks...Brew Thru's. You could just drive your car right up, load up with beer and never get out of the car...could it get any better???
