Halloween party/parade at school

Kiran had his halloween parade and party at school today. He was very excited to get to wear his costume to school and we also brought little goody bags (with pencils, little skeletons, stickers, and fruit snacks) to school for all his friends. It was really cute, the kids had a little parade through the hallways, all the teachers dressed up, and they had special halloween snacks. I'm sure there will be many more trick or treating pictures/posts to come!

And here's an update on Avi

I had an appointment on Monday and Avi is growing right on track and has a strong heartbeat. I had to do the glucose tolerance test, which entailed consuming some very nasty, sugary, orange drink and then an hour later getting poked and prodded for over a half hour while they tried to get my blood. My veins were being particularly evasive and it took 3 nurses, 5 needle pricks in my arms, one nice big bruise, and finally they drew blood from my hand. Ouch! I'm still waiting for the results, but I'm told that no news is good news. So, I'll go with that. And, finally, here's evidence of how the little guy is growing!

Mancation/Mama & Kiran weekend

A little late in updating...but better late than never! So, last weekend Nishu headed to St. Louis for his annual "mancation" with his high school buddies. We had planned to have a little party at our house but after a couple of cancellations (poor sick kiddos!) we decided we'd just make it a cozy weekend - just the two of us. We had lots of fun doing Halloween activities, baking and decorating halloween cupcakes, watching movies, going to legoland, and even doing a little shopping (that was for mama!). Here are lots of pics from our fun weekend!
Getting ready to do some fun craft projects!
Stickers, sticker, stickers!
Making Halloween cards for Great Grandma and Great Grandpa.

Decorating the windows...spooky!
More stickers.

And there's the cheesy smile!
Making chocolate cupcakes...yum!
Mixing and mixing.
Kiran also had lots of fun doing my hair and putting this lovely monkey ears headband in my hair. He took great care to get my hair just right and then said, "There...now you look beautiful, mama!"
After the cupcakes cooled down, he had lots of fun decorating them.

And eating them, of course!!

Making a bed of pillows.
It was, oh, so comfy!

We got a really fun pirate lego set at legoland...it kept him busy for quite a while.

Fin chilled out all weekend!

More funny dinner conversations

Yesterday Kiran had chicken, fries, and veggies for dinner. He was dipping his fries in ketchup. You know, so he could eat more ketchup than fries! Anyway, he dripped some ketchup on his shirt. It landed right on Frankenstein's forehead (see the most recent posts for the shirt he was wearing). I wiped it off and then he commented, "Now he's just like in India!" Funny little guy remembers from Puja's getting red powder put on his (and other people's) forehead. Apparently he thinks ketchup works just as well and now has an Indian Frankenstein shirt!

Carving Pumpkins

We picked up 4 pumpkins yesterday at Kiran's fieldtrip...one BIG one (33 lbs to be exact!) and a few smaller ones. Kiran crashed on the way home and took a nice nap. When he woke up the first thing out of his mouth was, "Can we go carve pumpkins?" And, fortunately, the weather was so nice - it was a perfect day to sit outside and carve pumpkins. So, that's what we did. Now, in actuality I did all of the carving. My dainty little boy just won't have his hands getting all slimy with the pumpkin guts. So, I did most of the work. He did pick out templates (which we couldn't use - our pumpkins were too small) and I did my best to replicate them on the pumpkins. He also enjoyed making the markings for where we would carve with one of the little tools. The carving tools these days are quite advanced!

And then, of course, there was some tackling/wrestling with papa in the front yard, too!

Kiran's first fieldtrip - Johanson's Farm

Kiran had his first school fieldtrip today. They rode a schoolbus to a farm in a neighboring town. And I got to go, too! It was lots of fun...they saw animals, got to hold a chick, went down the big inflatable slide, had lunch, and we picked some pumpkins!

Holding his partners hand...we didn't want to lose anyone.

Excited to hold a chick.

All squished in at the picnic table eating lunch.
Climbing up the big ladder - almost to the top!

Ready to go!
Wow, that was fast...
and fun!
Picking a "big" pumpkin
And some smaller pumpkins...it's very serious business!

I get this cheesy smile everytime I try to take a picture!
More goofy faces.
And, finally, a real smile!
